When you are new to stock photography it is very hard to get an understanding of this business. Experienced stock shooters may have a need to discuss developments in the stock photo business. In this post you will find some links that may help you in finding some useful information about the world of stock photography. By the way, when browsing the internet you will find there are very few good resources on the business of stock photography. Next to reading some blogs you may best be served with connecting to other shooters and working with experienced art directors.
Websites that may be of value for stock photographers
- The Stock Photo Guy – John Lund great blog of a top shooter and industry veteran
- Alamy Forum - although also a lot of bullshit, regular reading will give you some useful info
- Microstock Diaries - good resource when you like microstock
- Ellen Boughn Blog - Ellen Bough is an industry veteran and blogger with a focus on microstock
- AphotoEditor’s List of Stock Photo Agencies – a good list and one of the best websites on the world of photography
- The Daily Stock Photo Project Great project of Tom Grill on “how to shoot a stock image every day”
- Which Stock Agency - some useful lists but also stock photo business news
- Lookstat – Microstock Analysis - lots and lots of graphs
Nowadays most websites and blogs concerning the stock photo business focus on microstock. I have found very few good resources on traditional (macro) stock photography, the world of RF/RM photography. Maybe best to have a look at Getty Images, their photo library as well as some of the articles may prove to give you the best info available.
Websites of Stock Shooters
Websites of stock agencies and stock shooters are of course a great resource for getting ideas. Maybe in a next update I might add some links of great shooters, but that will be the kind of shooters that I like of course. Please, comment this post and tell us your favorite resources !!
